Veteran's Heart Georgia

Voices Project

The Voices project encompasses VHG’s programs that aim to create and sustain healing practices and conversations for Veterans, family members and the community. “Just Listen” gatherings and expressive arts modalities will be our focus for this committee.

The monthly JUST LISTEN gatherings invite veterans, family members and others to meet in community and share the stories of the effects of war on our lives. Listening is one of the most powerful ways of connecting with another human being. For a veteran, being able to speak the truth of the experience of war is incredibly healing. When others are able to listen without turning away from pain and horror, to listen without having to fix anything—staying open and receiving what is heard—an extraordinary transformation can occur for both the Speaker and the Listener. The Just Listen guidelines encourage us to be mindfully aware of our own reactions, judgments and fears, and to learn to speak from our own experience. Meetings are on the fourth Sunday of each month. Please consult the Events Calendar for details.

EXPRESSIVE ARTS projects for veterans and familes are also part of the Voices project. Healing modalities include writing, visual arts, music and drama. The community will be invited to witness the work that emerges.

Qualified volunteers are being sought for all levels of activity.
