Wistar Harmon III enlisted in the Army as a Private, E-1, on March 11, 1969 and was honorably discharged December 26, 1970.
During basic training at Fort Benning, he earned his Company’s Outstanding Trainee Award.
Wistar rose to the rank of SGT and served in Vietnam with Company A, 1st Battalion, 52nd Infantry, Americal Division. Wistar served as a squad sergeant in a mortar platoon. His company was assigned to the area of operation around LZ Stinson.
He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for “meritorious achievement in connection with military operations against a hostile force” during his service in Vietnam from March 1970 to December 1970.
