Plans, Projects, Programs

Are added to our existing framework!Veteran's Heart Georgia Logo

Logo debut: we now have a distinctive signature that symbolizes the mission and vision of Veteran’s Heart Georgia. Work is gong on currently to integrate the new logo into all the ways we present ourselves to the world.

New and exciting way of working! Until recently, VHG has functioned as a small group that met weekly with everyone contributing to the development and implementation of all our activities. We have now implemented several working committees.

Here are expanded descriptions of the committees:

Fundraising
Healers network/speakers bureau
Monthly Movies
Outreach/Communications
Retreat
Vet Advocacy/Legal issues
Volunteer coordination
Voices Project

Our next event is a Just Listen gathering 1:30 on Sunday, January 25, at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany.

The February Movie Matinee will be Soldiers Heart. Several of us were able to view the movie and meet the producer/director/writer this summer at a Soldiers Heart training retreat. We feel this will be another powerful experience for the VHG community.

VHG Inaugural Dinner, February 28. Hold the date!!!
Details coming soon.

The following is a poem found in the book Voices of Vets that expresses the feelings of one Vet who attended a retreat for Veterans and families held in Oregon last Spring:

MAGGOTS AND GOLD
Create a village as strong as a war
To pick the maggots off my skin
And burnish the gold that lies within
This will renew the strength of my sacred core.
Can we create a village as strong as a war?
–JACK McLEAN, USMC, VIETNAM VETERAN
(USED WITH PERMISSION OF THE POET)

SEE YOU JANUARY 25TH!

“If we are to return war to its proper place as a last defense when absolutely necessary, we must heal the wounds of our soldiers and communities. We cannot achieve peace-making without first achieving true and comprehensive war-healing.”
–Edward Tick, War and the Soul

Veteran’s Heart Georgia hosts an afternoon of deep listening and presence as we explore healing from the wounds of war

“JUST LISTEN”

A GATHERING TO CONTINUE THE HEALING WORK IN COMMUNITY

In our circles we practice mindful presence and compassionate listening.  We develop our capacity for empathy.  We increase our awareness of our own reactions, judgments and fears and learn to speak from our experience.  Through practice we grow our ability to simply listen and that simple act goes a long way.

Veteran’s Heart invites veterans, family members and concerned civilians to sit together in community.  This month’s circle will focus on “the call and the choice,” presently a quintessential part of joining the military.

When we listen to our veterans and their families, we are part of a process for setting things right, opening the door for a full return and healing.
