Every member of society is affected by war and can participate in healing our veterans returning from all wars, even if we do not know them personally or encounter them in our work lives

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2008
8:45 a.m.—4:00 p.m., Epiphany Parish Hall
A workshop with Edward Tick, PhD for clinicians, healing professionals and clergy

We will examine Post-traumatic Stress Disorder as an identity disorder and soul wound, and learn psycho-spiritual interventions that rebuild identities, shrink trauma, and restore wounded dimensions of soul. Join us in an exploration of the universal dimensions of veterans’ wounding as revealed through history, archetypal psychology and cross-cultural perspectives.

SISP Members—$90, non-members-$125

Hand to Hand

Since the beginning of the Iraq War in March 2003, I have been painting a news story almost daily on stuffed white gloves. These gloves depict the newspaper headline, the date the story appeared and my interpretation of the event. Each glove is a “rosary bead” in this on-going, meditation of war witnessing.

Recently, I’ve expanded the project to include other artists in a variety of media as a living community dialog. Since January 2006, artists from Atlanta and beyond Georgia, have each signed up for a specific week. They have chosen a news story a day during “their week” and created glove-related art works in response.

-Cecelia Kane

Title of Work: Hand-to-Hand
Medium: Mixed media using cotton gloves with photography, video, painting, stitchery, embroidery, digital media, animation, sound, plaster, glass, sculpture, performance and found objects.
Date: 2003-Present and continuing

“As I’ve gotten to know and respect veterans, their situation has become intolerable to me. They are home in body, but they can’t come home in mind or heart or spirit. My goal is to provide a road map to lead veterans and other survivors of trauma back into society.”

— Edward Tick, Soldier’s Heart Founder
